Project Description:

I led the social media marketing campaign for ‘What Has Sci-Fi Taught Us,’ a thought-provoking analysis of how science fiction’s visions of the future have shaped our present reality. Published by Futopia, this book explores the intersection of pop culture predictions and modern innovation. Working directly with the author, I developed and produced a strategic mix of content: public-facing videos for TikTok and Instagram to build buzz and awareness, alongside exclusive deep-dive content for dedicated Patreon subscribers. This multi-platform approach allowed us to both spark broad public interest and nurture an engaged community of passionate supporters. The campaign bridges the gap between classic sci-fi references and contemporary social media trends, creating content that resonates with both dedicated genre fans and newcomers to science fiction analysis.

1.0 Pre-Production

1.1. Initial Project Breakdown

Initial client consultation involved deep-diving into “What Has Sci-Fi Taught Us” to understand its key themes and analyzing sci-fi’s predictions in areas like artificial intelligence, space exploration, and technological innovation. We established a target audience spanning both serious sci-fi enthusiasts and casual pop culture fans, strategically planning how different content types would appeal to each group across TikTok, Instagram, and our Patreon community.

1.2. Research

The research phase centered on analyzing “What Has Sci-Fi Taught Us,” examining how each chapter unpacks different science fiction works and their predictions about our future. Simultaneously, I conducted extensive platform research across YouTube Shorts, TikTok, and Instagram Reels to study successful sci-fi analysis content, identifying effective storytelling techniques and presentation styles that resonate with modern social media audiences.

1.3. Creative Brainstorming/Planning

The creative planning phase focused on strategic content selection for maximum audience impact. Working from detailed book notes, I identified key sci-fi works that would resonate with modern viewers while effectively illustrating the book’s core arguments about technological predictions and societal change. Each selected movie or scene was evaluated for its visual appeal, relevance to current trends, and ability to drive engaging discussions across social platforms

2.0 Production

2.1 Write Scripts

Script writing involved transforming complex book chapters into engaging short-form video narratives. Taking key insights about each sci-fi work, I developed concise scripts that could capture viewers’ attention within the crucial first few seconds while still delivering meaningful analysis about how these films predicted or influenced modern technology and society.

2.2 Record Videos

Recording sessions focused on delivering clear, natural performances that balanced educational content with engaging presentation. Using a dual-recording setup with iPhone video and computer microphone audio allowed for optimal video quality while ensuring professional-grade sound capture for these educational yet entertaining social media deliverables.

2.3 Edit Videos

Post-production leveraged a comprehensive editing suite (Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, and Audacity) to create dynamic, engaging content. The workflow involved curating 30 minutes of key film footage, then precisely editing it down to impactful 1-2 minute segments that complement my commentary. The final edits blend face-to-camera segments with carefully selected movie scenes, crafted to maintain fair use compliance through transformative commentary while passing copyright detection algorithms due to their commentary nature. All of the music used is copyright free.

2.4 Client Feedback

Client feedback sessions involved reviewing each video for clarity, presentation quality, and messaging alignment. Feedback focused on technical improvements like audio emphasis and video quality, ensuring the content effectively conveyed the book’s key insights.

2.5 Feedback Implementation

Implementation phase involved meticulously incorporating all client feedback, refining audio emphasis, sourcing higher quality footage where needed, and performing final quality checks to ensure each video met professional standards before platform-specific optimization.
